Writer, Poet,
Educator, Mentor
I believe being a writer provides the ideal opportunity to soak up, embrace and reflect on life’s abundant riches. Those might be the things we see and feel all around us, or the unique qualities of the myriad people we meet. And I think much of the magic of being alive, and much of the ability to capture it in writing, comes from paying close attention, from being fully present and invested in the moment.
So, I may pause to ponder the cadence of a poem. I’ll try not to miss minutia as I take in the setting for an article. I’ll wait, as awe envelops me, if the person I’m interviewing has shared a sparkling gem. And ultimately, I hope my writing reveals my willingness to savor these moments.

Imagine This
Rise up each day
to be your brightest.
Stretch wide your hungry petals
in morning sun,
soak up golden sustenance.
Fill your throat
with wondrous green
you create within yourself.
Plunge through fear—
into cresting waves dive deep,
feel ocean power flood your knowing,
find strength where there was none before.
Then burst clean through to blue above,
your inhale deep and eager.
Scamper nimbly up hillsides,
leap to your perch—be regal!
Stand tall, breathe in triumph
as you survey your valley,
royalty above your realm.
And when at last it’s time to rest,
reach high, beyond where you dreamed you could,
savoring on your fingertips
starlight’s luminous caress,
and kiss the moon goodnight.
